Anticipation....

Do you remember the ketchup commercials? I know, some of you were not even born yet, but it was the whole waiting for the ketchup to come out of the bottle while the song "Anticipation" was playing in the background! That's kind of how I feel at the moment. I keep doing things on my old Dell laptop, knowing that I have a new, more powerful, Dell Vostro 1700 coming my way. Do I keep filing and working, downloading and etc. when I know I'm going to have to transfer things over when the new one comes. Then I have to clean up my old laptop and get it set up for my wife to use at home, while a desktop that she has in her craft room gets turned over to the kids. In the meantime, my computer that I use at work is still AWOL as it's been running slower that my 7 year old laptop. Meanwhile live goes on... and I wait, and wait, with oh so much anticipation....

Twitter

Oh yeah, I'm giving twitter a try, hope to convince some family and friends that it would be a good way to stay in touch. We'll see!

New Update

Okay, it's been some time since the last post. I'm still not totally into this blogging thing, if you didn't already know that. After my last foray into Ubuntu, and the transition our church made to Office 2007, I must admit that I am pretty pleased with Office 2007, Outlook, and of course with my Bible software, Logos, so I am back to exclusively using Windows. I've flip flopped so many times, I don't know what to think, so I've kind of decided that to save the loading and unloading, that I'm sticking with what I know works for me and hopefully that will be it!

Attended a Crossways Training -- a pretty indepth Bible study resource that I knew of from years ago, but am impressed with the symbols and ways of digging into the text and helping people get into the Word, it's been refreshing for me too, and having a Bible study tool like Logos just makes that even more possible. I'm excited about sharing some of the stuff with my congregation!

Go! Newsboys concert was awesome!

A week ago I went to the Newboys concert here in Kearney with my 3 sons. It was a first of that kind of thing for them at ages 11,9 and 7. We had a good time and I've always appreciated the sincerity of the Newsboys and there references to be in the Word. I have since then been listening almost constantly to their new album Go! and really like it a lot!. If you get the chance to see them in concert, they put on quite a show, and the whole spinning upside down drum set is just awesome! We also really liked the NewWorldSon which was one of the opening groups. Actually all of the groups were good, but NewWorldSon was particulary good, I liked their music style and the boys liked their keyboardist and his dancing! Newsboys though were just awesome. I had seen them at a Promise Keepers in Omaha a couple of years for just a few songs, but having the chance to see the whole concert was just awesome! By the way, if you go to YouTube and you search for Newsboys drum solos you'll see what I mean.

The Public Nuisance :: personal :: A Reformed, Christian Blog

The Public Nuisance :: personal :: A Reformed, Christian Blog

Okay, now we're getting extreme. Two posts in one day! Get out of town! Actually, I'm usually reading a lot of things on different blogs and things through my Google Reader, but haven't really gotten into the cross linking kind of thing. But I was struck by this post by Tim Challies, who's blog I read on a regular basis. It hit me in terms of who we might consider a nuisance. I've said several times in sermons, that sometimes when there are those difficult people to love, that it's always humbling to remember that Christ died for them, just like He did for me. This post by Tim, reminded me of that again. I also need to be reminded on a regular basis about loving those who sometimes might be difficult to love. And of course, it's amazing how often our children open our eyes to things we don't catch ourselves.

Thank You Logos!

Okay, my last post which was what, forever ago!, I postulated on my searching for the perfect computer and software world. I know we can't ever achieve it, since we live in a fallen, sinful world, where only Christ was perfect, and of course, lived that perfect life for us! But I must give out a big shout out and kudos to my Bible software, Logos, as it has once again, impressed me! I've already mentioned about how I love it, and also their little program NoteScraps! But they recently formed a partnership with powerpointsermons.com which shows powerpoints in their passage guide. As I explored the website, I was so impressed, and as we use screens in two of our four services, and having running announcements on a closed circuit tv system in our church with powerpoint, I am blown away by the quality of the graphics and slides, and that everyone on our staff can access them. I have already signed up, and it gives me even more impetus to stick with using Logos, not that that was ever a question in doubt anyway! Just to show you how grateful I am, I 'm posting a picture I got from powerpointsermons.com to say thanks! So, Thanks Logos and powerpointsermons.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, long time no hear from me!

I'd like to give you lots of excuses, but really, I have none, other than just too many things to do, and never enough time to post. I'd like to discuss for a moment what I might call computer paradise. I'm always searching for it. The perfect programs, the perfect OS, and it is probably one of the reasons I don't get as much done as I should, because I can't seem to make up my mind. I love some things about Windows and the ways it works well for what I have to do. I've always loved Wordperfect and consider myself fiercely loyal to it, except that I am so much of the mindset of open source, that I also use OpenOffice.org. But I can't help but dabble around with Linux, and have tried about every distribution out there, though currently I'm pretty sold on Ubuntu or Kubuntu. I still can't forsake my favorite Bible software, Logos Bible software, and have fallen in love with a little program called Notescraps, which was created by the Logos people to answer their own need for post it notes on the computer. I have reformated my harddrive in my dell laptop so much that the last time I reinstalled Windows, I had hit my max on activating windows and had to call up and get a new activation code. I'm not sure I want to make the jump to vista, can't afford it in the first place, but would hate to lose my investment in my bible software. I also have considered Mac, mainly because Logos is working on a Mac version, but don't know if that's the answer either. I guess you could say I'm always looking for software perfection, but never seem satisfied. I wonder how much more productive I might be if I just used pencil and paper sometimes, after all, didn't Martin Luther write enough to fill over 55 volumes, (in English translation anyway!) Any thoughts out there by anyone as to what way to go. I long for simplicity, I long for the power of what a computer brings, but I also long for what I know will never exist, the one program that does exactly what I want it to do, and make a good cup of coffee! Ah welll..........

Okay, so I'm not the world's greatest blogger

As you can tell, I haven't exactly made much usage of this blog thing, so I'm going to try and do a little better. Consider this short note a foretaste of the blogs to come.... Rob
